CavClear^® Weep Vents

Description:  CavClear^® Weep Vents are used in the vertical joints of the brick masonry units to provide moisture drainage and air flow.  The “notch” feature facilitates rapid drainage.  They are made of 100% recycled plastic and come in white, manila, harvest gold, rose or salmon, red, gray, and charcoal to blend with mortar.

Applications:  CavClear^® Weep Vents are intended for use in masonry cavity wall construction in the vertical joints of the brick masonry units.  When properly installed, they help provide moisture drainage and air flow.

CavClear^® Weep Vents are part of a complete line of cavity wall materials to help keep cavity airspaces open so the cavity wall system performs as intended.  Other cavity wall products include CavClear^® Masonry Mat, and CavClear^® XPS Insulation System.  CavClear^® Weep Vents perform best when used as part of the complete CavClear^® Cavity Wall system.  Contact manufacturer for information.

Composition and Materials:  CavClear^® Weep Vents are made from 100 percent recycled plastic.

Installation  

• Preparatory Work - The only preparation needed is that typical for constructing a masonry wall.  No special preparation is required for CavClear^® Weep Vents.

• Installation - Place CavClear^® Weep Vents in the head joints every 24 inches at all flashing levels.  Install with the notched side down.  Leave the side of the masonry units forming the vent space un-buttered and clear of mortar.  Simply slide the vent material into the joint instead of mortar once the two masonry units forming the weep vent are in place.

• Maintenance - Once installed none required.

Specification:  Typically specified in 04150 Masonry Accessories or 04090 Masonry Materials.  Insert the following text into your specification section.

2.1   WEEP VENT  

A.   Manufacturer and Type: CavClear Weep Vents by Archovations, Inc. (888) 436-2620. 

1.      Fluid and air conducting, non-absorbent, mold and mildew resistant, non-woven, polymer mesh.  

2.      100 percent post-consumer plastics with a flame-retardant binder.  

3.      “M” notched bottom.
